I call these little figurines 'Ruff Dawgs' because they are perfectly imperfect being made entirely by hand - I never use moulds. They make great cake toppers (and last a lot longer than fondant icing!) as well as wonderful memorials of beloved pets than are no longer with you.
These little figurines are sculpted out of polymer clay and are based on photos of your companion animal. Please note that unlike pet portraits , the likeness in 3D form will capture your animal's quirks and personality in a more whimsical style rather than being an exact realistic representation. That said, the better the quality of photo I can work from the easier it will be for me to include any distinct markings or quirky postures that are unique to your companion animal.
If you would like a figurine as a memorial for an animal that has passed on but you don't have brilliant photos, it may still be possible to create a figurine based on what photos you do have but please bear in mind it will be more of a generic breed rather than entirely based on your own animal.
For example - the set of three dogs in the photos below was created as a Secret Santa gift and the only photos were those the recipient had posted to Facebook which weren't necessarily perfectly posed or clear. I made these in a whimsical style of 'hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil' which got round the issue of not having great photos to work from. I based the colour and fur markings on the photos as best as I could and the recipient of the Secret Santa gift was delighted with them.
:I use Sculpey professional polymer clay over aluminium wire and foil armatures. Once the animal has been sculpted and the clay baked I paint the details (including the eyes - I don't use eye beads) using acrylic paint. It's difficult to give an exact size but it will be approximately 4 inches either in height or length depending on the pose of the animal (sitting or lying).
Please note that these are delicate, fragile 3D art works and aren't intended to be used as toys for children.
If you would like to commission a clay figure of your animal, please get in touch to discuss your requirements. I will contact you to discuss the kind of pose you would like and ask you to send me high quality jpeg photographs of your companion animal. I will also ask you to tell me about any little quirks or distinctive personality traits they have which helps me to build up a picture of them while I'm creating their sculpture to make it more uniquely them.
Once we decide on a pose, I will create your custom listing and it will be packaged to within an inch of its life to ensure as safe passage as possible to reach you in one piece. Please allow 2-4 weeks from the time you place your order as how long it will take will depend on what other creative work I have on at the time, how much is involved in sculpting your particular animal and of course how long postage will take to your destination. You will receive a certificate of authenticity along with your clay figurine.
The price per figurine is £55.00 plus postage and packaging.
